産婦人科学教室における臨床 / Clinical Study (Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Participant from : Université de Paris (France)
Program period : November 13, 2020 - April 19, 2021

I joined the reproductive center of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of Professor Nao SUZUKI from the 13th November 2020 to the 19th April 2021 for a clinical rotation elective. This elective was accepted as a rotation for my residency training as a reproductive biologist specialist by university in France. I decided to apply for this university and this department because of the excellent renown of Professor Nao SUZUKI and his reproductive team even internationally. I apply mainly to observe and learn fertility preservation management but I wished to learn about all the reproductive work too.
During my elective, I met and studied with a skillful and admirable team of gynecologist, cryobiologist, scientists and embryologists. They were all very supportive and they made me feel like a part of their team, which was very helpful. On a daily basis, I learned about the reproductive center management, the different technics and I could identify all the differences between this center and the practices from France which was very enriching. Once a week, I had the great opportunity to attend Professor Suzuki’s outpatient fertility preservation consultations. I could also attend surgeries for ovarian tissue cryoconservation before attending the cryopreservation process in the reproductive center with the vitrification method. As I came from Europe where this is not used, it was a unique experience for me. I attend different meetings with others gynecologists and others specialists too. All those activities built a strong new knowledge of reproductive medicine and especially fertility preservation for me, which went beyond all my expectations. I am very grateful to have been able to come here and I will never forget about my experience in St. Marianna University Hospital.

産婦人科学教室における臨床 / Clinical Study (Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Participant from : Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (Malaysia)
Program period : January 1 – December 31, 2021

I always amazed with Japanese radical surgeries that I gathered through my readings and from my seniors. It has always been my dream to experience the Japanese culture. I was introduced to Professor Nao Suzuki by Dr. Mohd Faizal, whom has had an excellent training experience in St. Marianna University.
I had the most memorable year of my life. A year filled with new knowledge, knowledge-sharing, adrenaline-driven surgeries, multidisciplinary team-care for patients, and the list goes on. The fellowship programme has allowed me to be involved in the patient care from the point of referral, initial investigations, and formulating the best approach to management based on the latest available evidence. I was given the chance to assist in the nerve sparing radical hysterectomy for cervical carcinoma, debulking surgery for ovarian carcinoma, hysterectomy with bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy, pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy for endometrial carcinoma, and many other surgeries. I had wonderful working experience under supervision of Dr. Kuji Shiho, whom not only guided me on the clinical aspect of gynaecology oncology, but also in clinical research.
Despite the doctors’ long working hours, their dedication and team work astonished me. I had great assistance from all the staff that I encountered. I am very pleased and thankful to be accepted and welcomed as a Muslim doctor in the hospital.
The year I spent here was not only loaded with knowledge but I also had the chance to experience the beautiful country of Japan, the land of the rising Sun. Above all, the omotenashi is what I treasured most.
